Babies process essential oils slower than adults.

Use Less and Use Less often.
Where to start?
CHOOSE OILS THAT ARE SAFE FOR BABIES:
#1 Purchase essential oils that are pure and proven: Doterra brand is the only brand I recommend based on studies revealing they consistently test pure with no added synthetics, contaminants or constituents that did not occur in the processed plant.
#2 Decide what you are wanting to accomplish, i.e. sleep support, immune support, etc.
#3 Choose essential oils that can support baby in area that you desire and most importantly essential oils that are gentle and safe for baby.
If you are new to using essential oils. Please read the basic safety instructions HERE
CHOOSE METHOD OF USE:
2 WAYS TO USE WITH BABIES
DIFFUSE Aromatic use is the safest method with your little one. You can use a cool mist diffuser like this Petal Diffuser or apply oil to a product and place where the baby can benefit from the vapors.
TOPICAL Essential Oils need to be diluted with non irritating all natural carrier such as fractionated coconut oil. Suggested dilution depends on age, see chart below.
Do not allow Essential Oils to get into babies mouth, eyes, ears, nose, genital area or on any area that baby will put into mouth. When in doubt apply diluted essential oils to the bottom of feet or the back of baby.
*INTERNAL NEVER USE ESSENTIAL OILS INTERNALLY WITH BABIES
Aromatic Use
Perhaps you want to help baby feel calm at feeding time and enhance the maternal bond. Aromatic use can help! Diffuse 1 or 2 drops in a cool mist diffuser or apply diluted oil to cloth that is near to baby. I like to use Flannel Rice Bags and roll a bit on the bag, place near baby or on babies tummy or back with scented side up.
Babies are very sensitive to scents and can smell things that you can not.
When diffusing with a cool mist diffuser do not place directly near baby but rather across the room and when using in bedroom do not close the door. Suggested duration to diffuse is 10 to 30 Minutes with at least an hour break between sessions.
Dilute for Topical Use: Children and babies' skin is different from adult skin; it’s thinner and generally more sensitive. Even though most oils tend to be non-irritating on the skin (especially on the bottom of the feet, where the skin is thickest), it’s a great idea to dilute essential oil in a good carrier oil before applying to children. You’ll still get the same benefits of the essential oil—you’re just adding extra moisture and pampering delicate child skin. The doTERRA Childrens' blend's are diluted and safe for ages 3 and up so when using on children and babies under 3 years old you will want to dilute them.
One of the ways I do this is by rolling the oil across the palm of my hand and then adding a dollop of unscented lotion or a carrier oil to my hand before I massage on to babies feet, abdomen or back.
