Reflecting on Jesus this Easter morn and Spikenard comes to mind.
Six days before Passover Mary of Bethany anointed the feet of Jesus with costly nard oil and washed his feet with her hair. Mary of Bethany was the sister of Martha and Lazarus.
doTERRA Spikenard is a very sweet smelling essential oil that has been used for centuries as an herbal remedy for insomnia, stress, skin issues and more. It has documented use for calming the mind and relaxing the body.
Though there are many historical uses for Spikenard, today I am focusing on its sedative properties. The oil is soothing and tranquilizing. When used through inhalation, and massage, it helps calm a person who is experiencing times of change as well as transition.
Notice that Spikenard was used to calm a person in times of transition, Jesus was about to experience a very major transition. In the final days leading up to the trial, beating and crucifixion we see that Jesus experienced mental anguish so much so that it affected him physically and God the Good Father sent an angel to strengthen him.

“he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground”
(Luke 22:41–44).
God sent an angel to comfort him in the garden and I believe God calmed his son with the Spikenard. The calming aroma of Spikenard would have lingered for days in the house, on Jesus feet and in Marys hair. God cares for his children. To experience the soothing aroma of Spikenard try it in a diffuser or apply to a scarf , through your hair, in a massage oil or relaxing bubble bath.
I will diffuse this today as I consider that even Jesus was ministered to with essential oils.
